Micronesia :: Yap : Kurrekurredut Drop Off
This largely unexplored area off the west coast still allows the intrepid to discover a new site. If you're lucky enough to do so, you can name it. There is a good variety of coral here, particularly brain coral. Smaller reef fish abound and larger pelagics can be spotted further out to sea.
To the south is Cherry Blossom Wall. The site features walls that are are deeper than normal on this side of the island and a visit here will reward you with sightings of fabulous corals, including black corals, which are almost exclusive to this site. They are deep though, at about 35m. Again, fish life is abundant and larger pelagics patrol the deeps.
Big Bend is found to the south of the above and is a gentle drift dive towards Cabbage Patch. There is plenty of hard coral around and nooks, crannies, crevices and swim-throughs will give you plenty to explore. Smaller fish hide out in these niches and the chances of seeing turtles and barracuda are always good.
