Did a few dives there a couple of months back and was very impressed with the marine life and viz. So if you're looking for an alternative to Koh Tao give the islands of Koh Ngam Yai and Noi off Chumphon a try.

Buksida:
I could not agree with you more on this one. I was in Chumporn a while back too and the diving was spectacular, much better than I was expecting. Abundant sea life, big turtles and a cool Trigger Fish - which bit my buddy!
"Hehe, cool..."
I would definately go back and I am sure sooner or later I will.

Makes me think about how overdived Koh Tao is, perhaps Chumpon has some potential to rival Kho Tao!

9 years ago koh tao was the place to dive after the padi production line took it over and created a factory pumping out certs the dive sites suffered but it is still nice diving if you can find a rare moment when the sites are not full of badly supervised inexperienced divers(note there are many good guides also). The sites around Chumpon are very good. If you want something different in Thailand try hin deang and hin muang down in the south of Thailand almost garenteed Mantas the odd Whale shark and awesome macro life. also the sites around Phuket if you can visit them on a quiet day are beautiful and varied. There,s no such thing as a bad dive and you cant get lost on a site, if there too busy make your own route leave the group behind and enjoy the peace and quite while discovering new areas.
